 Anyone who has followed Cristiano Ronaldo's career since the very beginning would be so so happy with this Portugal side. Remember those dark days of 2008 Euro and 2010 WC? Remember 2012 Euro where Ronaldo literally dragged a dead side all the way to the semis? Remember 2014 when Ronaldo had to start every game despite being seriously injured? Remember 2016 Euro where the man had to limp back on field in the final despite suffering a career reshaping knee injury simply because there weren't many suitable replacements? Remember that fairytale hat trick against Spain in 2018? For ages, one man has carried the burden of an entire nation's footballing dreams. This man has nothing left to prove to anyone. Watching a balanced Portugal team with good squad depth is bound to make a true Ronaldo fan happy. By "true Ronaldo fan", I mean those people who stayed up nights to watch a hapless Portugal side being saved by the sheer brilliance of one individual, day in day out. Game after game, tournament after tournament. At 38, Cristiano does not need to start every game. He will come on the pitch on minute 60, and every time he does, the crowd will erupt. Dear social media kids who started watching the game in 2020, listen to that noise, that thunderous applause as the great man comes on. That's his legacy - untouched, unrivalled, undiminished. 🐐🇵🇹
